Reading Cinemas

With many alternative movie theatres based within the CBD having to recently close due to damage, the shortage of cinemas playing art house films has become apparent. The Palms Reading Cinemas has responded to this gap in the market, creating the ‘Angelika’ label. The new brand will show a selection of art house films and add diversity to the cinemas mainstream movies already on offer.

Mark Kendrick, operations manager for Reading Cinemas said the cinema is looking forward to further promoting their new art house brand. The brand was launched following the reopening of the cinemas on 16 November and will source movies from a selection of both major and independent film distributors.

“This is clearly going to be a focus for us moving forward in the year ahead. We are happy to be able to offer the people of Canterbury a place to watch art house films. The addition of the Angelika brand to our mainstream stable of movies gives us a unique proposition to movie buffs, featuring international art house films such as ‘War Horse’ and ‘The Iron Lady’.

“A bit closer to home, we are also excited about the release of ‘Sione’s 2: Unfinished Business’, which is set to be a popular follow up to ‘Sione’s Wedding’, being released on 19 January. Die-hard Star Wars fans will also be thrilled to be able to experience ‘Episode One: The Phantom Menace’ in 3D, on its release on 9 February.”
